Weekend to Remember - An Experience You'll Never Forget

Give your marriage a tune up!

Let us tell you all about Weekend to Remember! We've been twice- the first time was in 2005, two months after we divorced on our 14th wedding anniversary... God placed that conference in our path to give us the tools to tear down the walls of isolation we'd unknowingly built in our marriage. He used that conference to restore our relationship, our marriage and our lives.

We made a commitment to go to the conference every year or so and attended again in 2007. God's Word is alive, and we came away learning so much more about how God designed marriage, how He created us for each other and how He uses what we perceive as weaknesses to strengthen each other and grow in Him.

The Weekend to Remember is a great multipurpose tool- it is a how to be married guide for engaged and newly married couples, a restoration tool for broken marriages, a maintenance tool for great marriages and a springboard to the next level for good marriages. The presenters are so human, so easy to relate to, so easy to listen to and learn from.

After we attended the conference last fall, God pressed on our hearts to volunteer for FamilyLife, so we are working at the Raleigh weekend this year. Scott is a group coach and I'm on the prayer team. We'll be there at the conference, serving in whatever way God needs us to serve.

Kitchen, January 29, 2007

Today, we installed the windows! Whoo hoo, just in time because the cold is headed our way!

Kitchen, January 28, 2007

Scott and Steven worked hard yesterday installing the sheathing and moisture barrier on the kitchen/family room. It wasn't easy- Satan was also working hard telling Scott that he couldn't do this- he never had before and he should have the professionals do it. Yet lo and behold, they were able to do it! Praise God! And today, we're installing the windows...so stay tuned for those photos!

Dining Room, January 15, 2007

So while Scott's been working in the kitchen, I've been preparing the dining room for paint. Which includes scraping and caulking the tongue and groove ceiling...very carefully around some seriously burned areas. Yes, there was a fire in the house back in the 1950's, and how they repaired afterwards is just scary. So we're replacing what we need to and painting everything else! :)

Kitchen, January 17, 2007

Well, before installing the new rafters, Scott decided to check the outside load bearing wall (the one with all those windows), and we were not surprised to find the studs severely water damaged. So, we took down the outside walls, removed the windows and are installing new walls and windows back there. Every day is a new surprise! :)

Exterior, January 2007

Scott removed the window and the small propane heater from the kitchen to accommodate our new kitchen cabinet design. Here he is, using clapboard we removed from inside the house, installing it outside to cover the holes!

Tree Removal- August 2006

Yes, it was a large tree- 20' caliper Sycamore! We had it taken down right before Ernesto in August 2006, it was essentially dead after about 20' up and the root system was destroying the foundation of the house....which we are now having replaced. It was a big tree and exciting to watch these men remove it. It was the largest tree they had ever removed!

The Kitchen- December 2006

Here we are removing the walls- Scott and Douglas doing demo and Sherry cleaning up!

The Kitchen- August 2006

These three rooms (an enclosed porch, a small kitchen and what was used as a bedroom) will be combined to form one large kitchen/family room! This is how they looked in August, before we removed the walls.

The Dining Room- August 2006

And this is the dining room- with a stunning fireplace, double entry doors, beautiful 8' windows! Underneath the smelly shag rug was a wonderfully preserved heartpine floor! Praise God, it was so encouraging being able to see something so beautiful under that ugly exterior. :)

The Center Hall- August 2006

This is the Center Hall, looking towards the front door from the back hall door...notice the 1970's gold/orange shag carpet- it was EVERYWHERE!

In August 2006, we finally bought this house in Faison, NC. God led us to this house and this town on the internet in February and in person in April. We moved to a rental house in Faison in July, and were finally able to close on the house in August! What a blessing!
