Weekend to Remember - An Experience You'll Never Forget

Give your marriage a tune up!

Let us tell you all about Weekend to Remember! We've been twice- the first time was in 2005, two months after we divorced on our 14th wedding anniversary... God placed that conference in our path to give us the tools to tear down the walls of isolation we'd unknowingly built in our marriage. He used that conference to restore our relationship, our marriage and our lives.

We made a commitment to go to the conference every year or so and attended again in 2007. God's Word is alive, and we came away learning so much more about how God designed marriage, how He created us for each other and how He uses what we perceive as weaknesses to strengthen each other and grow in Him.

The Weekend to Remember is a great multipurpose tool- it is a how to be married guide for engaged and newly married couples, a restoration tool for broken marriages, a maintenance tool for great marriages and a springboard to the next level for good marriages. The presenters are so human, so easy to relate to, so easy to listen to and learn from.

After we attended the conference last fall, God pressed on our hearts to volunteer for FamilyLife, so we are working at the Raleigh weekend this year. Scott is a group coach and I'm on the prayer team. We'll be there at the conference, serving in whatever way God needs us to serve.

20 Days and counting....

Yes, we skipped a couple of days of posting. Monday, Scott wasn't feeling well so he and Steven stayed home and I went over to the house and put another coat of paint on the hoosier/vanity. Yesterday, Tuesday, October 30, Scott worked with the gas company to hook up the hot water heater and the range, so now we have hot water and we are cooking with gas!! Whoo hoo!! So our kitchen is now fully operational!!

January 2007:
October 30, 2006:
What a difference! It's difficult to believe what it used to look like!! There is still a good deal of finish work to do, but that will come after Thanksgiving. We've got sheetrock, showers, vanities, a toilet, sealing floors, moving stuff, etc. to focus on now... and we're praising God for all of it!!!

23 Days and counting...

So, even though it is Sunday, we did a couple of things at the house:

Kitchen- Scott finished hooking up the icemaker
We changed the locks on the house (the original locksets are the wrong finish), Scott installed the electrical outlet for the hotwater heater.

Downstairs bathroom- when we bought the house, there was the bottom half of an old hoosier left, which today Steven and I scraped and primed. We're planning to use it as the vanity with a vessel sink. :)

We didn't do a lot since God doesn't really want us to work on Sundays and because the Patriots are playing at 4:00 pm and we wanted to see the game. So now we're home, watching the game and carving pumpkins!

24 Days and Counting...

Lots of work at the house today! Let's see, we installed and piped the hot water heater, Scott's mom spent the day with us, cleaning cabinets & the refrigerator and unpacking 6 boxes of kitchen stuff which we then put into the cabinets, we installed the microwave and worked on the icemaker water hookup.

And then we cleaned up the kitchen a bit, cleared the counter of stuff, and put our tools away.
We'll be back at the hous tomorrow working on some stuff, too!

It's starting to look like a kitchen!!!!

25 Days and counting...

Kitchen- completed the drain installation in both sinks & cut insulation for ceiling, installed whole house filtration, set up copper for hot water heater installation.

The lights Scott
installed yesterday:
The drain he installed today:
Steven demolishing the wall in the upstairs bathroom! We're getting there, one day at a time! It's all good...

26 Days and counting!

Today we:

Kitchen- connected the drain to the sink in peninsula, hooked up dishwasher, installed garbage disposal.
Upstairs bathroom- Steven demo'ed some of the wall (yeah, he liked that!)
Downstairs bathroom- hung temporary bright red curtains that are destined for Steven's room. :)
Laundry room- hung two schoolhouse light fixtures that Scott chose (very pretty!)

Keep thanking God with us...satan is working hard to discourage us and we're not having any part of that!! Discouragement is NOT of God! We'll praise Him instead!! :)

27 days and counting...

So we got some work done today! Here's what we accomplished:

Down stairs bathroom: Steven removed nails from studs, then we cut and installed sheetrock & wainscoting in corner, installed toilet valve & toilet!
Kitchen: installed strainer basket in prep sink, covered hole under stove, installed icemaker line, dishwasher is ready to be hooked up...we just need one more part!

Here it is! We've got a toilet! And it works, too! :)

Today is Root Canal Tuesday

Okay, we didn't work at the house today because Scott got to spend some quality time with his endodontist getting a root canal. He enjoyed that time so much, he's going back a couple more times over the next couple of months. Anyway, we've got the night off so he can rest and let the novocaine wear off and let the excedrin kick in. We are both thanking God that the endodontist is proficient, the work was quick and not terribly painful!

28 Days and Counting...

Every year at Thanksgiving, all of Scott's siblings, their spouses, children and dogs get together for the long weekend. That's a lot of people, so we've celebrated Thanksgiving together at Boy Scout Camps, State Parks, Chrissy's house...but this year we were having trouble finding accommodations. So we prayed about it, we know we need to move into our house soon, so we are having Thanksgiving 2007 at 216 South Forest Street. It will be rustic with unfinished sheetrock walls, no trim, etc., but not a whole lot more rustic than the camps at which we've stayed.

SO, we made a list of small projects that have to happen between now and then so we'll have the necessities such as toilets, showers, a functioning kitchen, clean (albeit rustic) rooms in which to sleep, eat and hang out. We also realize that momentum is built when we take a moment to acknowledge what we've accomplished whilst looking toward what's next on the list. So, we're going to try to keep posting it here so you can join us on the 28 day journey...

Things we crossed off the LIST on 10/22/07:

Upstairs bath: install valves on feeds for toilet & sink, install toilet flange
Kitchen: installed prep sink valves and faucet, strainer in sink
Downstairs bath: installed valve on cold water feed for sink
Spare bedroom: organized boxes, moved stuff from master bedroom to spare bedroom
Painted hot water heater mounting board

And we'll continue to pray that God orders our steps and guides us through this process so we do what needs to be done as it needs to be done, that he sends us whatever help we'll need, and that we won't burn out in the process. :) It's all good!

A Visit from Grandpa & Grandma!

On Monday Grandpa and Grandma stopped by to see us! They came to Mount Olive College first to check out the campus. Then we went home to get Steven and Scott and we gave them the grand tour of our house. Steven gave them the grand tour of the tree house, too. :) Then we enjoyed some eastern NC barbeque with cole slaw and hush puppies. We really enjoyed having the visit and are praying for their safe travel to Key West!

Progress Every Day!

Well, we're moving along on the upstairs bathroom. Dolores laid the tile and grouted it, it looks good! Now we need to demo one wall, install sheetrock, tape, paint, install fixtures and it will be ready to go!

August 2006 ------------October 2007

And since we've passed our inspection, we're tackling small projects after work each night as we can. Tonight, Scott hooked up the kitchen faucet. :) Next, we'll install the garbage disposal and the drains, hook up the dishwasher and that part of the kitchen will be done!

We're getting closer to moving in everyday...keep praying!! :)

Passed Inspection- PRAISE GOD!

We've passed our inspections, so now we've reorganized the parlor to be our workshop and we're putting together our plan to get in the house sooner rather than later. :) We put the floor in the upstairs bathroom so Dolores can lay tile on Monday. We installed the lights in the kitchen, all except those over the peninsula. Tomorrow we're going to mow the lawn and hang the hot water heater. And we'll make a list of stuff we need so we can hook up water and drains at the sinks, place the toilets, etc. We've got lots to do, so we're praying about it and asking God to guide us. Please pray in agreement with us!
